About Gachatha AA

Variety

This microlot is a blend of the Kenyan varieties Batian, SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11. SL28 and SL34 are considered classic Kenyan coffee varieties, renowned for their vibrant fruit character and bright acidity. Batian and Ruiru 11 contribute disease resistance and reliable yields. Together, these varieties create the complex, juicy, and expressive cup profile for which Kenyan coffees are famous.

Processing

This coffee is processed using the traditional Kenyan washed method. Ripe cherries are depulped immediately after harvest and fermented for 24–48 hours in open tanks. The beans are then thoroughly washed and soaked in clean water for an additional 12–72 hours—a distinctive Kenyan processing step that enhances cup clarity. Finally, the coffee is dried on raised beds. The result is a lively, clean cup with notes of blackcurrant, nectarine, cola, and malt, balanced by juicy acidity and syrup-like sweetness.
